The concept of money has evolved over time from commodity to metallic / paper currency and now digital currency. The basic tenet of money performing the primary functions of medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value would continue to hold good, even though its form and functions have changed. The Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) / Digital Rupee (or e?) a digital variant of physical currency, has implications for payment systems, monetary policy implementation and transmission as well as for the structure & stability of the financial system.  The changing features of money are also defining the new financial landscape of the economy.

The half-day conference aims to provide a platform for discussion on the various issues in CBDC including impact on financial intermediation, cyber security and privacy, confidence building measures amongst users for higher adoption and operational risks. Since CBDC is a potential ‘game changer’, the conference will analyse the issues involved for Banks, NBFCs and Financial Institutions who have a customer facing role in the CBDC ecosystem.
